Bleaching
Instantly look more youthful! A take home bleaching kit or a convenient in-office procedure can be a safe, effective way to brighten a smile. Using a non-invasive technique, we are able to lighten both slightly and significantly discolored teeth. The results are long lasting and are achieved with little or no sensitivity. There are many products available to dentists, most of which are a peroxide based solution either delivered directly to teeth during an in-office ZOOM procedure, or at home with a custom fitting mouth tray application.
The results of bleaching usually range from good to excellent. The reason for this high level of predictability is due largely to the fact that most adults who are dissatisfied with the shade of their teeth, possess a yellowish or brownish enamel shade. These shades are the most easily lightened by the bleaching agents we have available.
For certain people, bleaching may not be an appropriate procedure; especially for individuals with large fillings in their front teeth, crowns and bridges, or partials which cover or replace front teeth. For these reasons, it is important that you have your smile evaluated.

Bonding
Bonding is tooth-colored material used to fill gaps or change the color of teeth. Requiring a single office visit, bonding lasts several years. Bonding is more susceptible to staining or chipping than other forms of restoration. When teeth are chipped or slightly decayed, bonded composite resins may be the material of choice. Bonding also is used as tooth-colored filling for small cavities and broken or chipped surfaces. Additionally, it can be used to close spaces between teeth or cover the entire outside surface of a tooth to change its color and shape.

Tooth Colored Fillings
Dental amalgam or "silver filling" has been the standard of care for more than one hundred years. Today, however, there are several natural looking and functional materials available to us. Composite resin, porcelain and glass ionomer fillings are shaded to match natural teeth. Admittedly, no tooth colored material can match the test of time like amalgam or gold, and may require more frequent replacement. Some examples include:
Porcelain: Unquestionably, the most durable and lifelike tooth colored material. Such restorations are made from either a porcelain powder or a solid block of ceramic; custom fitted for the individual tooth to be restored. Using either a dental laboratory or an in office porcelain milling device, teeth can be renewed to their original beauty and function for many years to come.
Composite: Another alternative to porcelain or silver, composite fillings are an esthetically pleasing method of restoring decayed or broken down teeth. They combine the single visit convenience of silver fillings with the esthetic qualities of porcelain, giving the tooth a natural appearance.
Glass Ionomer: This tooth colored material is similar to composite, but does not have quite as high an esthetic quality. These fillings are best suited for cavities around the gum line or areas which are most prone to decay, as they have time released fluoride for decay prevention.
Veneers
Veneers are the treatment of choice for people with large fillings or broken down front teeth in need of repair. Additionally, they can
be the ideal treatment for smiles in need of:
· Closing spaces between front teeth.
· Reshaping of front teeth.
· Minor repositioning of front teeth, eliminating the need for time consuming
and costly orthodontic care.
· Lightening of front teeth (in a rare instance when teeth do not respond
to bleaching)
· Restoring overall harmony to smiles.
Veneers are made from an ultra thin shell of porcelain, a material
with visual qualities similar to tooth enamel. Placed directly on
teeth using bonding cement, veneers require only two visits to
complete, and usually require little or no drilling at all. Temporary
veneers will be placed on your teeth that will look and feel like the
final result and will allow you to recommend any changes you may
feel necessary in the permanent veneers. If you wish, Dr. Grossman
will request the dental lab technician to be present during the
appointment when you have your veneers placed, so that the
shape, color and position of the veneers can be customized to
meet your desires.
This restoration is long lasting. With proper care, veneers may
have a lifespan of twenty years or more. Additionally, they resist
stain more effectively that natural teeth and will never require
bleaching to re-whiten. Please feel free to ask about this
dramatic procedure.
